I enjoy going through my friends’ blogs to see what out there can have an impact on me, one way or another. I just came across my friend Linda’s post today about climate change. Nothing too crazy, only a few questions, and I thought, what a great thing to discuss! So, I’m borrowing her questions and answering them here. I’d love to know what YOU think about all of this!

Let’s begin:

  • What does sustainability mean to you? Well, I’ve honestly never thought about this. I suppose I hope that we can keep our home, this Earth, healthy enough that future generations can enjoy it for millennia to come!
  • Do you recycle? Why? I DO! I drive my family nuts actually, as I insist on rinsing soda cans out, as well as everything else (including the cat food tins LOL). With our upcoming move, I was told it’s relatively expensive to recycle where our new home is… to which I’ve said, “oh well.” It has to be done! I may only be tiny in the big scheme of things, but it’s the millions of small things/steps that add up to the big ones!
  • Would you ever think about growing your own food? Absolutely! Tyler (my hubby) wants to start our garden, and I’m not opposed to it! Though I know, it’ll be a lot of work, so we’d have to get a good routine down!
Climate change - reduce, reuse, and recycle!

TELL ME – do you grow your own food?!

  • I believe in helping the Earth because…? This is my home. It’s my children’s home. It’s not going anywhere, and if I and others don’t help it, no one else is going to!
  • Today I will ________ for the Earth. Keep on recycling to cut down on waste
  • What habits have you changed to help save the planet? Well, recycling is a massive thing for me! I’m anal about it lol. Other than that, I try not to use any pesticides or chemicals!
  • How do you feel when you think about climate change? I know that it’s a real problem, but I don’t fully understand it. I keep on trying to do as many little things as I can!
  • What more do you feel you could do in your effort to help save the Earth? I could do more research on the products and things that I use in my home and with my family! Which I swear I’ll eventually get to!

  • Do you feel you are doing enough? Is it ever enough when you’re trying to save a planet? I think not.
  • I will begin using less _________ in my home. Hmm, I’m not sure right this second.
  • Do you think your family could use less water? I don’t think we over-do it, but in North America, in the midwest, water isn’t typically a big deal. Then I think about places like California or anywhere with extreme heat and fire problems regularly, and realize that they do everything they can to avoid using water excessively. Not to mention countries where clean water is almost unheard of. So, with those thoughts, yes, we could cut down on water usage.
  • How do you think you could support more sustainable companies? Research, research, research! Looking into the background of a company is the first step in being able to support the good ones!
  • How do you feel about shopping second hand? Could you do it more? I am okay with second-hand shopping when it comes to most things, and I adore garage sales! Hand-me-downs are usually the best, not to mention the money you save! I could absolutely do it more!

Do you enjoy hand-me-downs?? Let me know!

  • What are some more ways you could save energy in your home? Being sure to turn the lights off is a small first step. What I would LOVE to do down the road is to get solar panels!! That would be a vast improvement!
  • People don’t realize the Earth is… It is slowly falling apart. Well, I think they realize it; but most people just figure it won’t fall apart while we’re alive, which is a terrible way to think of things.
  • How could you cut down your use of plastic? Ugh, this is something I wonder every day. I’m not sure. Plastic is just used everywhere, and for everything, it seems! I hate it, but I’m not even sure where to begin!

Here’s a site to visit to help us start using less plastic: http://www.greeneducationfoundation.org/nationalgreenweeksub/waste-reduction-tips/tips-to-use-less-plastic.html

  • How could you cut down on waste in your home? Well, recycling obviously. Using less junk and growing our food down the road. Every small thing helps!
  • What do you think the most endangered part of the Earth is? The untouched parts. Us humans like to conquer everything that there is to capture possibly. If there’s a spot of land that’s untouched, someone out there will find a way to destroy it.
  • Where is the most beautiful nature in your home? I’m not 100% on what this means perse – but, all of the National Parks in the USA are WONDROUS! If I could spend every day in one, I would!
  • What does living simply mean to you? Less buying THINGS, and spending more time with my kids, my family, and my friends. Exploring nature!
Climate change - will affect my kids and I have to help them!

Final thoughts:

There are so many small things we can all do to help the climate and our Earth. We need to do more. What are your thoughts? For journal thoughts on ME, check out my post here.
