This is definitely a page-turner! I had a great time reading this fictional novel; and can’t wait for the next in the series to appear later this year! Ms. Katherine Kayne does a fantastic job mixing real-world influences into her book so that you’re learning a bit of historical information at the same time as you’re enjoying the romance between the main character and her soulmate.
Set during a time when women weren’t appreciated for much; and innovation by a woman was frowned on; you get a sense of the battles some women had to face back then. Which, in reality, wasn’t all that long ago. The main character here, Letty, is a pioneer! She’s doing everything she can to become a veterinarian; unheard of back then! As if that’s not enough, she has magical powers infused in her from birth that she’s just now starting to learn about and attempt to control.
Another interesting tidbit is that the majority of the story takes place in Hawaii….which isn’t the setting in the majority of books I’ve read. It made it quite refreshing to get a “feel” for a place I’ve never been but have always wanted to go. Especially now, during a time when travel is definitely being frowned upon, seeing the characters going between the mainland and Hawaii…and even across the pond to good, ole’ England a handful of times was nice!
You can grab the book on Amazon or select stores! Plus, Ms. Kayne has an amazing website that digs a bit deeper. https://katherinekayne.com/
