Let me start by saying, I am NOT a runner. I have never been and never will be LOL! So, when Mallory Campoli from Smith Publicity, https://www.smithpublicity.com/, reached out to see if I was interested in reading the book and possibly reviewing it, I was all for it! Once I got started, I realized that it was a lot more involved with not only the running aspect but the very scientific and anatomical aspects of our bodies as well.

I started to learn things about myself that I never knew. Or at least that I hadn’t thought about since my high school anatomy class. The book truly made me think about the changes my body has been through the past 3.5 years. It grew two children in fifteen months. It’s gained a ton of weight and then lost a ton of weight, and went back to gaining weight. I have post-partum depression. Growing humans is HARD work!

What I enjoyed about this book is the way that the two authors (also physical therapists) introduced all of the different things that could go wrong in a woman’s body if they’re a runner who decides to start a family. There are a lot of people who think that if you get pregnant, you automatically have to STOP everything that you do physically. Whether that be running, yoga, pilates, or what have you. Pregnant women meet resistance the entirety of their pregnancy if they choose to continue to exercise while pregnant. There’s a massive stigma around it.

Dr. Blair Green & Dr. Kate Mihevc Edwards go into great detail about how science has proven over and over that it’s GOOD to exercise! A pregnant woman doesn’t have to stop her life just because she’s pregnant. Unless, of course, you’re one of the women that have a significant issue (pre-eclampsia, high blood pressure, prior miscarriages) that you’re already aware of beforehand.

Dr. Kate works at a physical therapy office in Georgia, https://www.precisionpt.org/, and she also has her website, https://www.katemihevcedwards.com/. She shares about being an athlete herself, as well as her struggles later on in life. She discusses being an author; she speaks at events, and is a generally fantastic person!

Dr. Blair also works at a physical therapy office in Georgia, https://www.catalystga.com/, and she too has her website, https://pelvicguru.com/professional/dr-blair-green/. She shares information about pelvic health (which is super important, and I honestly never knew before!), and blogs too! Chalk her up to another beautiful human!

There are tons of informative plans on how to keep training, stretching, and exercising throughout the book. If you are a beginner in terms of running, there’s a plan for you. There’s a plan for the seasoned marathon runner. There are plans for it all.

They also go into great detail about what can go wrong. If you’re having pain in some regions of your body and how to determine that. There are suggestions as to the type of doctor you should visit depending on the issue. They show breakdowns of areas of your body that go through a change as your pregnancy advances, along with pictures!

If you know anyone that’s a runner, male or female, there are points in this book that could significantly impact their running careers! I highly recommend this book for anyone who is super active as well, as there are great examples listed to help! It’s a very informative, well-written book about running, with a focus on the pregnant woman’s’ body and transformational changes.

It can be purchased on Amazon and at Barnes and Noble, and other major booksellers. Drop me a comment if you’ve read this or if you have other books that would continue on the same path of wellness and help for active folks!

Love ya,

Kelly Ann

  1. Hi Kelly,
Thanks so much for this wonderful review. I think you are right – even not as a runner, this book is still relevant to any woman who is pregnant, who has had a baby, and who is active, wants to stay active or become active. We tried to highlight as much as we could about how a woman’s body can change during pregnancy, but how she can stay strong! We are so grateful for your support.
