Sometimes we, as parents, forget that our children not only need our direction, but they need our support and guidance as well. How will your child figure out the best way to fold the laundry, prepare dinner, or keep track of their favorite go-to toys, without you showing them? Instead of just doing the bare minimum (which is A LOT, I know!) and making sure they are bathed, fed, clothed, happy, healthy, and getting by (and SO MUCH MORE!), we also need to help guide them, shape them, and most importantly SHOW them everything we’ve already learned in our lives.

Letting my boys “help” me do the laundry is nothing short of challenging – they want to push every single button on the machines – throw dirty clothes into the dryer from the hamper; toss dryer sheets into the washing machine and a plethora of other things! However, I know that by allowing them to “help” me in this daily chore, I’m showing them that this is easily something they can help me with – even at 1 and 2 years old! There’s absolutely nothing keeping them from tossing the (proper) clothing into the proper machines with my guidance!

I sometimes catch my husband getting extremely frustrated with our two year old who absolutely INSISTS on assisting me to clean the cat litter pans (we have 5 cats). As frustrating as it is for me to let him “help” me – this is also an excellent learning opportunity! I have to make it a point to let my husband know that even though our two year old most definitely needs a bath immediately after helping me, he’s not doing anything “wrong!” By yelling at him and scolding him for trying to help his mom, you’re teaching him that he’s wrong in wanting to help and as a parent, I want my children to know that I can ALWAYS use their help! I’d rather have to give a bath to him right after this chore, than have to yell at him when he becomes a teenager to help take care of his dog and/or cat because he was never “allowed” to assist with those chores as a toddler!

“Little Hands Help” dives into child/parent relationships by re-introducing readers to Angela, a smart and bright little girl who just wants to help her parents out around the house! At first, her parents don’t even realize that they’re excluding their daughter – but with some quick thinking and a quick meeting amongst the family, Angela makes it a point to show her parents what they’re missing out on by not allowing her to help them like she wants to! It’s a very feel good – “oh man, am I doing this to MY kids” – kind of story. It’s absolutely PERFECT for moms/dads/kids to sit together and read as a family.

It may not be something that my kids and I can fully discuss – yet, as they ARE only 1 and 2 – but it IS something we can read together and I can be sure to point out that “Mommy LOVES having their help with her chores around the house!” Go out and take a look at this book – I promise it’s definitely worth it and will be a fun book to reference every once in a while when you’re frustrated!

I just finished reading the newly released children’s book, “Little Hands Help,” by Mike & Mackenzie Morrison. As a mom to two little boys, I’m always interested in ways to help them grow and learn, as well as learning FROM them too. This book definitely points parents in the right direction to help their children, rather than simply raise them.

A special announcement as well about Mr. Morrison – he has several other books out there, check them out here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5412179.Mike_Morrison

A special thanks to Courtney Link at Smith Publicity, https://www.smithpublicity.com/ for reaching out to me with information on this book and allowing me to obtain a copy for my family to love and read together!

Love ya,
Kelly Ann
