“Why the hell can’t you let me access those files?! They’re from fifteen years ago!” I exclaimed.

“Please don’t get overly excited, Miss. It’s just policy. Now, if you’ll just go to the courthouse and get the proper paperwork from the judge that was on the case, I’d be more than happy to help you out.” Stated the Officer in charge of records.

“Officer….. Riley, is it?” (I asked after scanning his badge) “You wouldn’t happen to know how exactly I’m supposed to find a judge that QUIT being a judge the year after my sister’s case, would you? By the way, you have mayonnaise on your chin.” I turned around and stomped back out the door and headed for my car before he could shut his jaw and respond to me, muttering the whole way.

I HATE politics. The police had treated my sisters’ case as open and shut all those years ago. That’s why my poor momma still holds out hope that Sandy will come back at any time. I know different, she’s not coming back. The more I’ve been thinking of Sandy lately, the more bits and pieces keep coming to me in my dreams. I can’t get her out of my mind.

Claddagh necklace - Sandy
Claddagh necklace – Sandy

Here are the facts as I see them, Sandy was sixteen years old and beautiful. She could easily have been mistaken for being over eighteen and in college. She had worn her favorite necklace that night and her long overcoat, as it was a bit on the chilly side. Our daddy had given her the necklace the day she was born. It was a slim gold chain, with the Claddagh symbol as the feature.

She had decided to walk that night so she could spend some time alone with her thoughts, as she and momma had been fighting lately about Sandy’s boyfriend, Luke. Luke was supposed to meet up with Sandy to talk but had never shown up. Both Sandy’s friends and the police confirmed that he stayed in that night. But why?

Another mystery for me to figure out, as when the police went to question Luke, he was gone. Vanished, just like Sandy. Or so everything thought at the time. A lot of theories were tossed about back then. The two of them ran away and got married, settled down, and never looked back.

It’s high time I got to the bottom of this mess. I miss Sandy, but I know she’s gone. I can’t rest until I figure out what happened to her. Besides, I think she came back home that night before she disappeared, too. I found her Claddagh necklace on my swing in the backyard the day after she’d gone missing. It’s the only piece of jewelry I wear daily.

Here we go again ….

So, thoughts/suggestions? Not one person commented on my first post! Though both Tyler and my mom were intrigued! I think my mom’s words were, “WTF?! What happens next?!” so that was a morale booster, for sure! Thanks mom!
