Are you expecting a new baby in your life? Do you know anyone who is expecting their first bundle of joy? If you do, then this book would be a fantastic introduction to parenthood! My oldest boy, Declan, is three, going on sixteen, but that’s neither here nor there. My point is, I WISH I had owned this book before he was born. Man, was I unprepared! I mean, you “think” you have a good understanding of what to expect when you bring your first baby home. Then you get home, and life starts doing flip-flops right in front of your eyes!

I was sent this book via PDF a while ago, by Barbara Teszler from Teszler PR, http://www.teszlerpr.com/ to read it and write up my thoughts on this book. I thought it would be a good fit since I have two little ones and I was curious to see if what they claimed was real, “Motherhood doesn’t come with a manual, but this book comes close.” Now that’s something you don’t see advertised often!

I have to agree with them on the sentiment too! Dr. Whitney Casares has an absolute gem on her hands with this book! It’s positive, uplifting, sincere, and easy to read. She sums up motherhood well when she’s describing her toddler having a full-on melt-down, while she goes to change her new baby, who spews poo EVERYWHERE and gets it all over everything. I just had to laugh when I was reading that. I’ve been there. The majority of moms have been there. There’s just no avoiding the inevitable poo going everywhere at some point in time!

Dr. Whitney has her website, https://modernmommydoc.com/, where there is a ton of information on being a new parent, blog posts about support for new moms, and where to turn, free printables, and all sorts of other goodies! You can also go and check her out on her IG page, @modernmommydoc (https://www.instagram.com/modernmommydoc/), where she shares even more information!

The book covers everything from A-Z! She delves into what to register for when you’re having baby showers planned (and the fact that you don’t need 90% of what you think you need!). She discusses the types of questions you want to ask a potential pediatrician. There’s an entire section dedicated to breastfeeding, though she states that formula feeding is acceptable too. She gives a list of things you truly will need when you first get home and the things you think you might need (wipe-warmer) when in reality, that’s not a necessity at all!

Even being a mom of two little guys myself, and way past the newborn stage, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I mean, nowadays, my eldest tells me about the robots he’s built out of legos and shows me his excavators that are digging in the carpet while Tristan (he’s two) walks around like he is untouchable and owns everything! Like I said before, I wish I had this “manual” before my oldest showing up. Either way, even now, it’s handy and a total joy to read. I know that in the future for my friends who decide to journey into parenthood, I’ll be getting them this book.

Do you have any favorite parenting books that you read before having kids yourself? Drop me a comment and let me know what you thought about this if you’ve read it! Or if you have a favorite go-to parenting book! I’d love to hear about them!

Love ya,
