#StrongKids, a short, sweet, on-point book, written for younger kids – 3 to 6 or so – is so good! It’s a good self-esteem booster and helpful with beginning to understand emotions!
Jennifer & Naomi Keitt did quite well with this short piece! Definitely a book I’ll be reading to my kids, starting now!

Author Jennifer Keitt says, “In the times we are living in, children need a way to cope and handle their emotions. For toddlers and young children, common behavioral problems arise when they don’t have the skills to assess what they’re thinking, how they’re feeling, and the impact their thoughts and feelings are having on how they behave. It takes practice, but if parents can help their children tune into their thoughts and feelings, they will have a better chance of curbing unwanted behavior by supporting their child’s positive thoughts, feelings, and actions.”

I reached out to Joelle from smith Publicity after this post was originally published to see if either of the authors would be willing to do a quick Q&A with me via email. Jennifer was available!

Our interview:

Me: How long, from beginning to end, did it take you to get the book together and get it published?

Jennifer: This is an idea that has been germinating for years. When we finally decided that this was the best time, from start to finish it took several months.

Me: What are you looking to accomplish in the next five years?

Jennifer: In relationship to the book, we are hoping that parents and children will begin to have daily emotion check-ins. It is so important for moms and dads to guide their children into emotional health and well-being.

Me: What is your favorite quote? Why?

Jennifer: This is a very hard question because I have so many! I am inspired and encouraged by women and men who encourage us all to be better people, to care for humanity and to live powerful lives!

Me: Your book is so supportive and amazing! Do you intend to write any follow-up children’s books or books about your life?

Jennifer: Yes I do! In fact I’m hoping to make #StrongKids a series of books empowering children to become emotionally healthy. As for my life, I’m not ready to write that book yet.

Me: How did your family and friends react to your book?

Jennifer: Everyone has been so, so supportive! My kids, their spouses, my husband, friends, family, board members and the community at large have been my motivators and supporters. It’s so encouraging to know that people can see the need for our children to have this special book.

A quick break here to show you the Keitt duo! 🙂

Me: Was it hard to write the book as a duo?  Or as a mother/daughter team?

Jennifer: Not at all! Naomi and I are both journalists. Communicating is what we do for a living, so it was fun to put our professional heads together to bring this message to kids!

Me: Who is your favorite author? I’m an avid reader, and I am always looking for suggestions on what to read next!

Jennifer: Honestly, because I am in a doctoral program right now, I am reading so much! Lol! Opening up my kindle, I see quite a few books I have yet to get to like, “Everything You Need” by Dr. David Jeremiah, “The Magic of Big Thinking: by David Schwartz, and several James Patterson novels!

Me: What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time, if you have any?

Jennifer: I love spending time with my hubby! We bike ride together, and take long drives in our convertible. We also ride motorcycles together.

Me: How did you come up with the #StrongKids toolkit?

Jennifer: Toolkits are resources that I’ve developed over the years for my audiences. I’ve always given my radio listeners additional information on the vast array of topics that I’ve covered, so it just made sense to give moms and dads this same kind of information. The toolkits are wonderful nuggets of information to round out parents’ knowledge about their children and how to help their kids become emotionally healthy.

Me: What would you say to your younger self if you could go back? Any advice or helpful tips?

Jennifer: I would encourage my younger self to take more time to discover who she is and why she’s alive. I would tell my younger self to become self-aware and discover your purpose because these two components will lead to a life that is authentic and worth living.

Isn’t she just amazing?!?!

To follow up with a bit of wisdom from her daughter, Naomi:

Author Naomi Keitt says, “When children get the opportunity to learn themselves and learn where their powers come from, they are truly strong and unstoppable. #StrongKids allows children to take the lead and uncover their unique ability to communicate with friends, family, and the world around them.” For more information on Naomi, you can visit her on her IG (@naomikeitt) & FB (@naomikeitt).

#StrongKids can be purchased at various outlets, including Amazon and https://www.strongkids.me/. If you order the downloadable version through the strongkids site that I’ve listed, there’s a free toolkit that comes along with the book!

What do you think about books like this? Simple reads with a straight-to-the-point focus? (I think they’re EXCELLENT!) Another great kid’s book is Big Heart Feels, which I recently posted a review about as well! Feel free to check that one out here. Or this one about #history!

A big thanks to Joelle Speranza with Smith Publicity for thinking of me when choosing folks to review and spread the word about this cute book! https://www.smithpublicity.com/
