Written like a fast-paced comic book, featuring a beautiful black cat and his friends; you wouldn’t expect to learn a thing or two whilst following along about finances.  Kids can learn about loans, interest rates, loan sharks (seriously, they’re terrifying!) and the stress that comes along with all of these things!  The range of characters is fun and sensible with where the story is based (New York or Chicago comes to mind.)  There’s a zoo and all sorts of characters.

There are action scenes, reflective scenes, storylines and more.  The tale also touches on things that many of today’s kids will understand without a problem (unfortunately) – bullying and peer pressure to name a few.  The way the main character is learning to deal with these concepts is helpful to watch play out as you follow along.  It’s a very fast read, in my opinion.  It didn’t take long to get through once I picked it up.  This is definitely one I’ll keep around for future, simple teaching tips for my kids once they’re a bit older!

What’s super nifty about this book isn’t just the information that kids can start to learn about, but the fact that since it’s drawn out in comic book style – kids can color it in afterward.  The entire book is in black/white.  There’s even a few extra pages for your kids (or your) own doodles too!  As you’re informed about fairly quickly when you open it up, this book was written by a father/kid duo – and judging by the back cover, their cat plays the main character.  I think that creating something like this as a parent with their child must’ve been a super great experience!
