“STOP! STOP! I CAN’T DO THIS ANYMORE!” I screamed at Sandy. She just stared at me like I’d lost my mind. Which, maybe I have. At this point, nothing would surprise me!
“Um, OK then, why don’t you just calm down a little bit? By the way, when did you get so big? Just yesterday, you were following me around and begging to have me put makeup on you!” Sandy said.
“Sandy…I AM bigger now. You’ve been gone for over fifteen years. I’m trying so hard to find you. Is there anything you can tell me about that last night? What happened to you? We need closure!” I said in an exasperated tone.
“Charlie, what are you going on about? I’m right here! I haven’t gone anywhere. Last night does seem a bit foggy to me, but I did some things I shouldn’t have. Speaking of, do NOT do drugs, do you hear me, Charlie?! This is SUPER important to me! I don’t know what I was thinking, but it wasn’t worth it in the end! Hey, I’ll see you in a little bit, I hear momma calling me. I love you!”
What the hell….
I sat straight up in bed, covered in sweat, tears streaming down my face. Jaxon reached over and grabbed my hand. “Babe, are you OK? Was it another dream? Who needs your help now?”
“It wasn’t any other dream. It was Sandy. She’s back. I’ve been digging around into her case recently, and I guess it just sparked my subconscious awake.”
Jaxon sat up and started rubbing my back. “I’m sorry, Charlie. I didn’t know. Why didn’t you tell me about this?”
“Oh, you know, it’s the same thing, just a bit older of a case. I didn’t want to worry you.”
“You only worry me when you’re trying so hard to solve something that you start losing sleep…which is what you’re doing now. Let me make you some coffee. Let’s just get up for a while and watch one of your favorite movies. How does that sound?”
“That sounds great, Babe. Thank you.” I gave him a quick peck on the lips and hopped out of bed. I am so going to be up for the day. Oh well, there’s always tonight for trying to sleep. Plus, it’s momma’s birthday – so I have that to look forward to! ICE CREAM CAKE HERE I COME!
So….
I am having such a great time writing this piece by piece. I think I figured out the entire direction I want to take the book in! How exciting is that?!
