Michigan – charming, beautiful, untouched, pure. We’ve all seen the signs, at least here in Missouri, we have – HUGE billboards proclaiming, “Pure Michigan” and some photo of a gorgeous scene! Such as this one below, which happens to be Lake of the Clouds, one of the most photographed sites in the Porcupine Mountains.

I’m fortunate because Tyler’s family is from Michigan. The upper peninsula of Michigan, to be even more specific. Not to be confused with lower Michigan, where you’ll find Detroit and other major cities. It’s a bit offensive to compare lower to upper, as the upper wants to be their own state, and vice versa, from what I understand LOL.

Since I began dating Tyler in 2012, I’ve been to Michigan almost every year since then, at least once. With Tyler’s birthday being in mid-January, we always headed that way to spend his birthday, plus a few days, give or take, with his Grandpa, near Iron River.

The first time I went, I was promised tons of snow, pristine, gorgeous snow! I was to be sorely disappointed, though, and to this day, I still give Tyler shit about it. There was zero snow, and if I recall correctly, the temperature outside was below zero, and I FROZE the entire time we were there.

Since then, I’ve had many more positive experiences, have seen the countryside covered in FEET of snow, and have still gone out in it. As the humidity in the UP isn’t nearly so bad as it is in St. Louis. So exploring is always amazing! Cold, but amazing, and as long as you bundle correctly, you’re all set.

I’ve also had the pleasure of going up that way during spring/summer once or twice, and by golly, it’s even more stunning then! The parks, trails, hiking options, waterfalls, SCENERY! It’s all gorgeous!

Essentially, what I’m saying is this: if you have time, flexibility and the means to go, do NOT miss out on the chance to visit the upper peninsula of Michigan! It is one of my favorite places to go – and that’s hard for me to say, as I’m usually freezing!

Where is your favorite place to head to when you have time? I’d love to know! Please drop me a comment! Thanks! 🙂 Here is a link to one of my OTHER favorite places, Giants’ Causeway – Ireland. <3

Love ya,
