Meet Sunny, the snail. Sunny the mail snail that is! He is by far one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten for Declan and Tristan! Since I just found out about him recently, he’s just in time for Christmas as well! Join me as I explain what he and his pals are up to all the time!
Sunny is no ordinary snail. He delivers mail to kids all around the world! The mail he has fills kids in on the many wonders of the world. The first box we opened from Sunny contained the first letter, a world map, stickers, and a plush Sunny the mail snail!
The first letter we received from Sunny explained who he was and just what he was up to! The second letter went on in detail about how he had a letter that he needed to deliver to a crocodile in South Africa, on the Nile river!
Since that first letter:
We’ve received one letter a week, each with a new journey that Sunny is on, delivering mail to far-off, or close, places! Declan and Tristan see the logos on the letter and gather around on the couch for me to open it up and read them Sunny’s letter. Each letter is addressed to both Declan and Tristan and signed off by their buddy, Sunny.
Sunny comes in a variety of programs for your kids, ranging from a monthly subscription to a six month subscription, which automatically renews so you don’t have to remember!
I was super blessed to have received an email from Jordan with ChicExecs Brand Strategy letting me know about this fantastic company! We spoke about the company, and I sent her some follow-up questions to get some more information. In the meantime, we began receiving our Sunny letters!
I wanted to reach out to Wendy, the owner, and creator of Sunny, and see if she could fill in some blanks! She obliged, and I’m quite grateful!
Q & A session:
How long did it take Wendy to come up with Sunny as a general idea for her son? Days, weeks?
It started with a cool feather I found. I created a story about the feather and Sunny’s best friend BlueBird and mailed it that week. He loved the story so much I started writing one every week after that first one.
Once her son outgrew Sunny, what made her decide to transform him into a lovable character for kids to enjoy the world over?
I was frustrated with my job and doing some soul searching about starting my own business. I wondered what I could possibly do and what was I good at? I happened to open a drawer and found the old letters we had saved, and that was my aha moment.
How long does it take to come up with a Sunny letter, as well as all of the facts and information that goes into the letters?
Usually, one day or so then I send it to my graphic artist to design the artwork.
I noticed on the website that Sunny is perfect for entire classrooms as well, and I have to agree! Are the prices for the classroom the same as the prices for a full family? So, that would be around $100 (including tax, I assume) for a 6-month subscription?
Yes, right now, the prices are the same, but I add in extras for classrooms such as coloring sheets, one world wall poster per child, and other small things for the class.
What has been your favorite interaction since launching Sunny? Have you had a lot of kids or their families reach out and tell you about their experiences and success with Sunny helping kids to enjoy reading?!
Yes! It’s hard to pick just one. We hear so many wonderful things about how this has helped so many little ones. Many are isolated and lonely kids who found a friend in Sunny (one in the Australian outback), kids who improved their reading skills and confidence, kids that connect every week with their grandparents when their letters arrive, and so many more great moments. Plus, we sometimes send kids postcards to mail back to Sunny, and it’s so very fun reading their little notes.

A fairy tale of a different kind! Since her son was having difficulty grasping reading, she began sending him weekly letters, which turned into a lifelong love of reading! From there, Wendy’s idea took off, and she turned it into a fabulous business that inspires children everywhere!
